Android, Rom-by-Rom
Despite all attempts otherwise, I’m going through the Android Eclair roms one-by-one until I find one that’s usable.
(I did a wipe before each installation and installed the latest radio/SPL from Haykuro. I started out with my SD card partitioned to FAT32/EXT4.)

xRom Eclair 2.1 v1.1
I started with xRom last night. Things looked good at first: nice live wallpapers, Eclairiness, etc. It was a little slow and offered no Facebook integration, but it was stable. After a few hours, it ate all of my apps. -
OpenEclair v1.1.5
OpenEclair raised the bar by running much more quickly than xRom. A few live wallpapers were missing and none of them worked. At first, I thought the news/weather app wasn’t updating without the GPS enabled, but that was not the case. I used this rom for almost a day. I thought it was the rom for me until it started to randomly shut off while in my pocket. -
KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 v1.5
Next up is KingKlick. Before I began using it, I reformatted my SD card to a FAT32/EXT2/Swap layout. It seems a little slower than Open Eclair. More live wallpapers are included and even a couple work. I’ll update this once I make a preliminary decision.
UPDATE: I got my first freeze. Later that night, another freeze. Now I can’t access Market and my contacts disappeared. -
OpenEclair v1.2.1
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. They called v1.1.5 “beta,” so maybe this one will work better. I used the same partition layout as before, albeit with a new card (well, a different card). Right away, I got a Force Close for the camera. I got a few more camera force-closes, but after a reboot, the camera works. Live wallpapers also work.
UPDATE: Four days later, things are still going good. I can access Market and there are no random freezes. I still get force-closes for Camera, even though it works anytime I use it.
